The most surprising thing about my internship was how fast it went. I can't believe that it went by so fast. However, I was able to contribute a lot to the field trip program. I also was able to cover for an educator when she was sick, as well as take over a lot of the teaching so as to give my mentor more time to send emails and such. I made a lot of progress in this internship. I was able to quickly learn how to keep the kids attention, learned several ways for getting students to behave, learned how to make demonstration on the fly, learned how to be a kids friend in thirty seconds, and how to give a presentation that I know nothing about. These are all skills I wasn't necessarily taught, but by being around people who do this everyday, I learned quickly. The experience went different than I thought in that I enjoyed it way more than I anticipated. I also spent more time teaching and less time working on my robot than I expected. However, these are good things, as it turns out. I did not really have goals as I went into my internship, but my accomplishments were learning that I love teaching, helping the powerhouse with heavy lifting, and learning how to work with kiddos better. My challenges were few and far between. It was hard at first to start the lessons, but walking around while squatting and acting goofy always makes you less uncomfortable right?
